The QR code may be the menu, the table number and the payment route at the same time. When it fails, the answer is not to keep rescanning for twenty minutes. Find out which step is blocked, then ask the restaurant to place the order manually.
Before scanning
- Confirm the code is fixed to your table or displayed by the restaurant.
- Do not scan a sticker pasted over another QR code.
- Ask whether the code should be opened with WeChat, Alipay or the phone camera.
- Check that your table number appears after the menu opens.
If the page will not load
- Switch between mobile data and restaurant Wi-Fi.
- Close the mini program and scan once more from the correct app.
- Turn off automatic page translation temporarily if buttons have moved or disappeared.
- Try the other payment ecosystem only if the restaurant says it supports it.
If it requires a Chinese phone number
Ask whether the number is for login, a queue notification or order contact. Do not enter a random number. A member of staff may be able to open a staff-ordering screen, enter the dishes at the register or provide a paper menu.
我无法用手机点餐,请给我纸质菜单或者帮我点餐。
Pronunciation: Wo wufa yong shouji diancan, qing gei wo zhizhi caidan huozhe bang wo diancan.
I cannot order on my phone. Please give me a paper menu or help me order.

If you can see dishes but cannot check out
Take screenshots of the chosen dishes and quantities before leaving the page. Show them to staff together with the table number. Check for these common blockers:
- A required choice such as size, temperature, flavor or side dish has not been selected.
- The restaurant requires payment before sending the order to the kitchen.
- Your foreign card is unavailable for that merchant QR code.
- The table already has an unpaid order opened by another diner.
- A coupon or membership price was selected but your account is not eligible.
Confirm that the kitchen received it
A payment screen is not always proof that an order was submitted. Look for an order number, estimated preparation time or 已下单 (Yi xiadan, order placed). If nothing arrives and the page still says 待支付 (Dai zhifu, awaiting payment), show the screen to staff.
Paying at the counter instead
Ask for the final amount before presenting a payment code. Make sure the staff has not duplicated the dishes you attempted to submit online. Keep the payment result open until the restaurant confirms the bill is settled.
FAQ
Is a restaurant allowed to refuse a manual order?
Practices vary. Stay calm and ask for a staff-assisted order. If the restaurant cannot offer a workable method, it may be faster to choose another place than argue while hungry.
Can I translate a mini-program screen?
Use a second phone, a screenshot or your phone’s screen-translation feature. Camera translation works better on a static paper menu than on moving pop-ups.
What if payment succeeded but the order vanished?
Show the transaction record, time, amount and merchant name. Do not pay a second time until staff checks the first transaction.
